The epitome of class and cool, Tom Ford sunglasses deliver classic styles with a modern edge. Think bold, distinct shapes that balance vintage with modern, all inspired by 70s and 80s design. Founded by the eponymous designer, the fashion house’s eyewear collection launched in 2005 and remains a popular go-to for designer sunglasses. If you’re considering investing in a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses, this buying guide is for you. We’ll cover all you need to know, from how to know you’re getting the real thing, what you can expect to spend, and where you can purchase them from.
How to Spot Fake Tom Ford Sunglasses
There’s a myriad of things you can check to ensure your Tom Ford sunglasses are authentic. Our checklist below covers what to look for, as well as common signs of fake models.
Tom Ford sunglasses should come in a branded retail box with the brand’s logo on. You’ll want to check that the spelling, font, and spacing is correct and in line with Tom Ford’s official logo. If it’s a little wonky, it’s likely the glasses inside are copycats.
This box should also have the manufacturer information and a barcode on it. Again, double check these against the model you have purchased. The manufacturer should be Marcolin S.p.A (we’ll discuss them more in a bit.)
An information booklet should be included in the box. Like before, check the spacing, spelling, and the font used in this.
Alongside the booklet, an authenticity card with an envelope should be in the box. We know we’re repeating ourselves here, but the same thing goes - check the logo is right, and there are no spelling mistakes in the copy. The text should also be aligned correctly and not wonky.
You should also receive a dust cloth with the logo on. Spelling, font, and spacing again.
Your Tom Ford sunglasses should come with a protective glasses case with the logo on. You know the drill now for what to check for.
Now onto the glasses themselves. ‘Tom Ford’ should be etched into the top corner of the right lens. This shouldn’t be painted and easy to scratch off. Like before, check the spelling, spacing, and font.
The right end temple tip should have an inset metal plaque with the brand’s name on. This should be etched and not printed. Again, check spacing, spelling and the font. The plaque should also have a sharp, clear finish.
The model’s serial number should be etched on the inner left temple end. Do note that this might be printed on older styles. Check that this serial number is correct against the style you have purchased.
The inner left arm should feature the style, model, colour code, as well as the lens and frame measurements. This includes the arm length, lens width, and nose bridge. You can check these against the official model details to ensure they’re correct.
The inside of the right arm should feature ‘Tom Ford’, ‘Made in Italy’ and the CE stamp. This is a marker that the glasses have passed the European safety standard.
The brand is well-known for T shaped hinges that curve around the front of the frames and onto the arms. Any other types of hinges are not official Tom Ford.
Who Makes Tom Ford Sunglasses?
