How to Measure Pupil Distance
Your pupil distance is an essential measurement for ordering prescription glasses; without it, your lenses won’t be accurate. This measurement is used to accurately determine the area of your lens that you look through to ensure that you have clear vision.
Your pupil distance, or PD, is the distance between the centre of your pupils (the black circles in the centre of your eye) and is always measured in millimetres for accuracy.
Typically, your optician will do this measurement. However, we have an excellent online tool that allows you to do it yourself accurately!
What is the average pupil distance?
The average PD for an adult is between 60 and 65mm, while children range from 43-58mm. While these measurements are a typical average, it’s not uncommon for people to have two PD measurements, or for sizes to differ between men and women.
This information is essential when ordering your lenses. Without it, the focal points in your new glasses might be off, rendering them useless.
If you’re not able to get to an optometrist for your PD measurement, our online tool allows you to measure accurately.
