The New Season Chanel Glasses: Chain Collection
Bold, understated elegance and designs that are both modern and timeless at the same time - from the iconic French luxury fashion house, Chanel. Keeping a simplistic approach to design, Chanel has created what is now some of the most elegant glasses lines. The brand has been using the same signature elements on their eyewear designs that are present in their ready-to-wear collections as well. Some of the classic Chanel symbols include world charms, camellia, pearls, quilting or the chains. In this review, we're going to look at the new collection of the Chanel Chain Collection glasses.
The Chanel chain design on the eyeglasses originates from the popularity of the famous 2.55 Chanel handbags. Coco Chanel became tired of having to carry her bag around at social occasions and needed a bag that frees up her hands. So she came up with a design that was inspired by the straps found on soldiers' bags and she added thin straps to the bags. The chains are also said to depict the equestrian bridles and according to Chanel, the nuns were carrying their keys around on similar chains in the convent where Coco was brought up. The chains are attached by leather-threaded chain inserted though eyelets on the handbags that mirror in the eyewear collection: woven between the chains of the glasses is calfskin leather.
The Chanel chain glasses also feature the double "C" embellishment on the sides. these interlocking "C"s were inspired by the stained glass windows in an Aubazine chapel (where Coco was brought up as an orphan) which featured interlaced curves. The double "C" logo is still the brand's trademark logo and is featured even on some of London's lampposts in Mayfair (where Chanel opened her first London boutique) as a gesture from Hugh Grosvenor "Bendor", the 2nd Duke of Westminster who was fond of the French designer.
Apart from the double C icon and the signature, there are a few more symbols that each represents a collection that the brand offers. The classic Chanel colours are black, white, red, beige and gold, which often reflects in the colours used in the Chanel eyewear collections.
